Payments Ecosystem: Are the Networks Taking Over?: 26 July 2016

Duration: 30 Minutes

Lafferty Group COO Ronan Lynch and Lafferty Group research department heads Phathisani Khumalo and David Hickey are joined by special guest Sriram Natarajan, COO of Quatrro Payments Services for a special webinar where we ask:

Are Visa and Mastercard trying to acquire the entire payments ecosystem?

Despite the challenges presented by the rise of national networks, the entrance of new payments players, the issues with retailers, and the panic created in a post-Brexit financial world, Mastercard and Visa have continued to thrive, expand and adapt.

Mastercard's acquisition of UK-based payments company Vocalink and its announcement that it will be applying for a payments licence in China comes around the time of its first rebrand in 20 years; this can't be a coincidence. Mastercard is ready to move away from the physical and 'cash-in' on the expanding digital payments market.

Visa has made interesting announcements of its own — higher-than-expected quarterly profits and an end to the standoff with PayPal through a potentially very profitable partnership.
