There are 22 award categories in banking, cards and payments, merchant services and fintech. A breakdown of these categories can be viewed below.

As well as an overall award, there will be a number of individual awards within each category. These awards will be at the discretion of the Lafferty Global Awards judging panel. All entries will be eligible for the overall award as well as an individual award in their chosen category.

You may enter one or more of the categories. Award categories are open to entries from anywhere in the world.

 

Banking Awards

Excellence in Retail Banking

In the highly competitive world of retail banking, a strong customer focus is a vital component in any company's success. The individual consumer must be at the very core of everything that the retail bank does. This category recognises excellence in retail banking, with judges paying particular attention to areas such as customer satisfaction, customer education, financial inclusion and staff education and engagement.

Excellence in Mobile Banking

In today's digital age, mobile banking is an increasingly important aspect of a bank/financial institution's product suite, allowing customers to perform a wide variety of transactions on a mobile device (smartphone, tablet, etc.) In this category, judges will be looking for case studies to include details such as mobile app downloads, customer satisfaction, customer education, marketing, innovation and how security concerns regarding mobile banking have been addressed.

Excellence in Digital Banking

The Excellence in Digital Banking category is for entries that go beyond simply offering a mobile app, or allowing their customers to access their accounts online. A digital bank should not see digital as one channel to reach their customers, but have digital at the very core of their corporate culture. In this category, judges will be looking at criteria such as customer satisfaction and loyalty, innovation, staff education and staff engagement.

Excellence in SME/Business Banking

Access to financial services is vital to the development of the SME sector in markets worldwide. This category is open to entries from those who specialise in SME/Micro-SME banking, in this case defined as a business with fewer than 250 employees and annual turnover not exceeding €50 million. Entries will be judged on criteria such as customer education, customer satisfaction, marketing and communication.

Excellence in Affluent Banking

Affluent banking is a key growth area for most retail banks. Case studies submitted for this category will be judged on criteria such as effective communication with affluent customers, customer satisfaction, identifying and meeting customer needs and exclusive banking services tailored to these needs.

Excellence in HNW/Private Banking

Private banking represents an exclusive subset of banking, with services rendered on a more personal level than mass retail banking, usually via dedicated advisors or relationship managers. This category recognises excellence in private banking, with judges paying particular attention to areas such as customer acquisition and customer satisfaction, staff education and training, staff engagement and communication with customers.

Cards and Payments Awards

Excellence in Credit Cards

This category recognises issuers who offer a consistently high quality, or new, significantly improved offering to credit card holders. Judges will be looking for case studies that demonstrate evident success in areas such as value to the customer, customer satisfaction, creative and innovative ways of meeting customer needs and evidence of commercial success.

Excellence in Prepaid Cards

Entries in this category are invited from any prepaid card made available to consumers. Judges will be focusing on criteria such as customer value proposition, evidence of customer satisfaction, creative and innovative elements of the product and evidence of commercial success.

Excellence in Commercial Cards

This category is open to entries from card issuers who cater to corporate customers. This may include purchase cards, corporate cards or travel and entertainment (T&E) cards. In this category, judges will be looking for case studies to demonstrate creative and innovative methods of adding value for the customer, how the programme delivers value to the end user and evidence of commercial success.

Excellence in Premium Cards

Premium cards may also be referred to as "gold" or "platinum" cards, offered to consumers with excellent credit. Entries in this category will be judged on criteria such as customer satisfaction, creative and innovative ways of meeting customer needs, exclusive perks available to premium customers, effective communication and staff engagement.

Excellence in Debit Cards

This category recognises the very best debit cards and associated current accounts available to consumers. In this category, judges will be looking for case studies that demonstrate customer value, show how the debit card programme deepened the customer/provider relationship, creative or innovative elements of the programme and evidence of commercial success.

Excellence in Remittance Services

Remittances refer to the funds sent by an expatriate to their home country. This category recognises excellence in remittance services, with judges looking at criteria like customer loyalty and satisfaction, innovation in meeting customer needs, effectiveness of marketing and communication to the end-user.

Acquiring Awards

Excellence in Multinational/Cross-Border Merchant Services

In this category, judges will be looking for evidence of relevant functionality that is compatible with local laws, practices and regulations in different countries. Case studies should also demonstrate how the merchant service enabled retailers to optimise performance and increase profitability through an easy-to-use offering.

Excellence in SME Merchant Services

The Excellence in SME Merchant Services category is open to entries from any product or service offering who facilitate the acceptance of card payments in small and medium enterprises. For this year's awards, an SME is defined as a business with fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover not exceeding €50 million. In this category, case studies should illustrate to the judges an ability to adapt your offering to different types of small retailers, customer education and how you empowered the retailer to take more control over their business with a convenient method of accepting payments, and how data security concerns were taken care of.

Excellence in Corporate Merchant Services

This category is open to entries from those offer merchant services to larger corporate clients. Entries will be judged on areas such as ease of use for the end-user, staff training and staff engagement with customers, creative and innovative ways of meeting customer needs and evidence of profit improvements for clients.

Excellence in Payment Gateways

Entries in this category are open to any product or service that authorizes payments for retailers by facilitating the transfer of information between a payment portal (POS, e-commerce website, mobile phone) and the merchant's acquiring bank. Entries in this category will be judged on criteria such as ease of use and convenience for the customer, evidence of flexibility and an ability to adapt to different retailer's needs, creativity and innovation and data security.

Excellence in Merchant Acquiring Data Services

This category aims to reward the acquirer, processor or solutions provider who has excelled in turning data into actionable insights for customers, or utilising their own data to improve customer loyalty and retention. In this category, judges will be looking for evident success in areas such as customer satisfaction and data security. Judges will also reward entries which demonstrate creative and innovative ways of understanding and meeting customer needs and evidence of improved commercial success.

Fintech Awards

Excellence in Payments

This category is open to entries from all areas of payments, including e-commerce, m-commerce, s-commerce, mobile payments (including mobile wallets), mPOS and contactless payments providers. Judges will be looking for benefits to both users and service providers, as well as evidence of customer satisfaction, creative and innovative ways of meeting customer needs, customer education and commercial success.

Excellence in Financial Inclusion

Financial inclusion is a key factor in helping to reduce poverty worldwide and this award looks to celebrate the efforts of those who are changing lives by providing a gateway to access essential financial services to the most disadvantaged in society. This category is open to entries from any product or service that helps to close the gap between those at opposite ends of the income spectrum.

Excellence in Money Transfer/Currency Movements

This category is open to both B2B and B2C products/services. Entries will be judged on criteria such as customer satisfaction, ease of use, transparency of transactions, demonstration of how the service understands and complies with international laws and regulations and evidence of data security.

This category recognises excellence from a product or service offering which benefits both lenders and borrowers. Judges will be looking for evident success in areas such as customer satisfaction, creative and innovative ways of improving user experience and a user-friendly process.

The Excellence in Cryptocurrency category rewards excellence in field of crypto or digital currencies. Entries in this category will be judged on criteria such as market capitilisation, daily trading volume, verification method and retailer acceptance.
